Bringing togetherness back – summer fun with friends and family

The sun is here (sometimes), the kids are using every trick in the book to avoid going to bed before dark, and Boris has declared we are mask-free. And with five weeks of summer ahead, it’s also time to spend precious time with friends and family. In our last articleParents: Make time for yourselves this summer’ we shared some fun ways to invest in yourselves this summer. This week we have some suggestions on how to max out those long summer evenings whilst the kids enjoy games or a movie with the sitter, yay!

Take to the water

There’s always something special about a summer’s evening spent on the water – especially when you don’t need to fret about the potential for children to topple in.

Why not try your hand at punting along Oxford’s Cherwell River by paying a visit to Cherwell Boathouse, where you can also rest those weary arms and enjoy a great meal at the Boathouse restaurant on your return. For those seeking ultimate relaxation and to avoid a potential dip into the water themselves, Magdalen Bridge Boathouse also offers a chauffeur and picnic punting service throughout the summer as you are shown the sights of the city along the riverbank.

Alternatively, Oxford River Cruises provide the chance to enjoy either a sundowner or full dinner while sitting back and cruising through the city, they even offer a private Pimms or dining cruise experience. For a more metropolitan riverscape, book a table for dinner or drinks on one of the glass riverboats cruising up and down the Thames taking in views of the Shard, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Houses of Parliament.

Listen to the sounds of summer

Let your stresses waft away on the summer breeze with an evening of alfresco music, shared with friends. From Proms in the Park  and music festivals such as Hampton Court Palace Festival, to just soaking up the tunes whilst meandering around the Sky Garden with a drink in hand at the top of London’s Walkie Talkie there’s an abundance of musical events taking place across the south east this summer to help ease you into a chilled summer vibe.

Time for tea

For a lovely treat for the Grandparents why not indulge in the gastronomic feast that is a full afternoon tea on a sunny terrace – without the need to share your cake with sticky little fingers! Pick a location with a stunning backdrop, like the Terrace at Blenheim Palace or enjoy the novelty of the floating terrace at The Folly in Oxford. For a more quirky experience, try out one of the domes in the London Secret Garden located in Kensington.

Dress up for a day at the races

If something with a bit more adrenaline is required – and for the ladies wanting to dust off those summer party dresses – take your place alongside friends in the stands at your local racecourse. Watch the horses pound the turf and see if you can predict the winners! Race courses like Ascot, Newbury and Sandown Park all have numerous fixtures in the diary for the summer and offer restaurants and bars to complete your day out.

With many of the restrictions on life now having eased – making catching up with friends and family that bit easier – it’s time for us all to make the most of summer 2021!

And Inloco is here to help cover your childcare needs. Whether it’s a date night, evening out with friends, or a daytime treat, Inloco childcarers – recommended by your trusted circle of friends and family – can take the childcare reins.

So, how will you be spending time with friends this summer?
